Celebrate World Water Day with the Hudson River Watershed Alliance!
Join the Hudson River Watershed Alliance for a World Water Day gathering on Saturday, March 22 from 4-6 pm at Rough Draft Bar & Books (82 John Street, Kingston, NY 12401). Rough Draft is a bookstore, bar, and cafe with a great selection of coffee and tea drinks, beer, cider, wine, and pastries. We’re looking forward to connecting with our watershed community in-person.
Support the Hudson River Watershed Alliance on World Water Day and receive a special tote bag! For a gift of $30 or more, we are delighted to offer you a special Hudson River Watershed Alliance tote bag as a token of our appreciation. The tote bag is made of recycled cotton, and features a beautiful map of the Hudson River watershed by local designer Fabia Wargin.
This is a brand new offer from the Hudson River Watershed Alliance, and the tote bags will be available as a thank you for in-person donations at our World Water Day gathering at Rough Draft.

Grab a book and a beverage, and support our waters! Rough Draft will be donating a portion of food and beverage sales during our gathering from 4-6 pm — and from book sales all day long — to benefit our work to unite and empower communities to protect our shared waters. If you can’t make it in person, you can still support our work by shopping Rough Draft’s online World Water Day reading list all month long. Or through any other book purchases on their Bookshop.org online shop on Saturday, March 22!

Sarah Cadieux, Board Member: The Day the River Caught Fire: How the Cuyahoga River Exploded and Ignited the Earth Day Movement
This children’s book tells the story of how the Cayuhoga River in Cleveland, Ohio, caught fire in the 1880s. The dramatic story of a burning river provides an engaging narrative, and details how polluted water impacts community health and wellbeing.
Jen Cohen, Operations Manager: The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben
An illuminating account of the forest, and the science that shows us how trees communicate, feel, and live in social networks. After reading this book, a walk in the woods will never be the same again.
Pammi Price, Board Member: The Serviceberry: Abundance & Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer
The Serviceberry is an amazing journey into the power of our relationships with nature, each other, gratitude, community, sharing, reciprocity, gifts, kindness, and love. This book is a call to action, a recognition of the need for change, and provides the hope that true connection with nature and valuing people over things can bring.
Emily Svenson, President: Evidence by Mary Oliver
Oliver’s poetry evokes the peace and power of nature, and this collection is filled with gems. In particular, “At the River Clarion” captures my love for rivers, and the otter in “Almost a Conversation” always brings a smile.
Emily Vail, Executive Director: Emergent Strategy by adrienne marie brown and The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters by Priya Parker
How can the natural world inspire stronger, better collaborative work? How can our meetings and events have purpose and meaning? These two books have been extremely influential in my approach to organizing around watersheds, both locally and across the region. Highly recommend both!
World Water Day is an annual United Nations Observance, held each year on March 22, focusing on the importance of freshwater around the world. World Water Day celebrates water and inspires action.
